The artist print of “Wildflowers”, a 2015 public art installation developed for West Palm Beach plaza along the Florida Turnpike presents itself unconventionally, the print realizing the conceptual undertaking of the main project it resembles. This limited-edition print exists as a vibrant addition to the artist’s oeuvre that appears both beautiful and thought-provoking.
Prints of “Wildflowers” from the artist’s “Florida is…Nature” series are in the collection of Florida’s Department of State in Tallahassee, the work also having been exhibited at the Orlando Science Center, The Frank (Frank C. Otis Gallery and Exhibit Hall), and Creative Pinellas.
Xavier Cortada, “Wildflowers,” archival ink on paper (signed, numbered, limited edition print, edition of 10), 8″ x 16″, 12″ x 24″, or 15″ x 30″, 2015.
Buy your own personal edition of one of the pieces from “The Puzzled Landscape: (re)Growing Native Florida piece by piece,” a permanent public installation Cortada was commissioned to create at the West Palm Beach Florida Turnpike plaza. The high definition print is locally hand-crafted using vegetable-based dye inks. “Each of us has a role in helping shape Florida’s natural history,” said Cortada. “We can help reclaim nature, one yard at a time, by planting wildflower gardens to support our pollinators.” Cortada hopes his art piece will help educate individuals about the importance of Florida’s ecosystems and encourage better environmental stewardship.
