Broward County Governmental Center Parking Garage

In partnership with Broward County’s Cultural Division and Resilience Environment Department, Cortada created a ceramic tile mural depicting the elevation of the Broward County Governmental Center Parking Garage: four feet above sea level. Accompanied by a permanent QR code and placed on a highly trafficked street, this ambiguous number four is a catalyst for conversation and a portal to climate education and activism.

The elevation mural is Cortada’s 11th in Broward in 2024, following the completion of a hand painted mural at 10 different Broward County public schools. Importantly, he led hundreds of students across those schools in climate art workshops that emphasized the vulnerability of Broward residents to rising seas, while sparking a process for community engagement, education, and action.
